BROADCAST CANCELLED
MODERATOR’S ADDRESS.
RESTRICTIONS REBENTED. VIOLATION OF FREE SPEECH. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. As the result of conditions Imposed by the Government the proposed broadcast talk from station IZM tomorrow, by the Moderator of the Presbyterian General Assembly (Rt. Rev. T. H. Roseveare) under the auspices of the Crusade for Social Justices has been cancelled. The Postmaster-General (the Hon. F. Jones), stated In a telegram to the organisation that, pending a decision on the question of broadcast talks and debates, It was regretted It was not possible to agree to broadcast under the auspices of the Crusade. However, the Minister added he would be pleased to allow the -Moderator to speak, provided his script was first submitted and approved by the station director. The organisers of the Crusade consider that such conditions would mean that the Moderator would have to speak purely in an independent way. and that his address would be more or less alienated from the body under whose auspices It was therefore decided to cancel the broadcast. Officials of the Crusade consider that the fact that the leader of the Presbyterian Church should have to submit his address on Christian principles for approval to he a violation of the fundamentals of freedom of speech.
