OBITUARY.

MRS E. A. ANDREW. (Special to Times.) TE AROHA. Saturday. The death has occurred in Te Aroha of one of the district’s pioneers in the person of Mrs Elizabeth Ann Andrew, aged 82 years. Born in Lancashire in 1855, the late Mrs Andrew came to New Zealand 02 years ago as a bride having married the late Mr John Hendry Andrew, who predeceased her three years ago. They first settled at Thames, then in the boom of a gold rush. In 1880 there was news of a gold discovery at Te Aroha, and many Thames’ residents Jeft for the scene. Mrs Andrew left later with her husband for Waiorongomai, returning subsequently to Thames. On the sub-division of the. Otway Estate Elstow, they took up a large block and successfully farmed it for many Andrew retired to Te Aroha. where the latter resided up io the time of her death. Mrs Andrew haves a family of eight, four sons and four daughters —Messrs William and Harold Andrew (Auckland , Arthur Andrew (Frankton). Thomas Andrew (Elstow), Mrs H. Keeping (Eilerslie), Mrs J. Weekely (Wellington) and Mesdames F. Mackie and C. Mallovves (Te Aroha). There are 34 grandchildren and six great grand-children..

MR FREDERICK CARTER. (Special to Times.) AUCKLAND, Saturday. The death has occurred of Mr Frederick Carter, formerly the leading harpist in New Zealand, Mr Carter, who resided at Mount Eden, was born at Birmingham, England, and would have been 77 on July 31. lie learned to play the harp from the famous English harpist John Thomas as a young man.
