COLLIERY EXPLOSION.

THE WHARNCLIFFE DISASTER. ALLEGED LACK OF DISCIPLINE. THE NIGHT SHIFT -CRITICISED. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright July 16, 11.20 a.m.) LONDON, July 15. A brick placed to hold open doors which were hindering cleaners was declared to he one of the preliminary causes of the explosion at the Wharncliffe colliery. Sir 'Henry Walker, in reporting, criticises the discipline of the night shift, giving as an example the propping open of ventilation doors. ‘‘These acts of lack of discipline reflect upon the management,” he said. Sir Robert was of the opinion that the explosion was extended- because of the dampness causing the limestone dust to bind.
