The New Zealand hockey team played a country side at Mudgee today, tho visitors winning by 5 goals to 1. New Zealand led by 2 goals to 0 at half-Wme. The country team pressed during the early play, which was fast and exciting. and Smillie, the New Zealand goalkeeper, had to stop several hard shots. Midway through the first spell Duftlekl flicked the ball into the net, and a few minutes later Monteith scored. During the second had! three more goals were added by Robertson, Best and Monteith. The New Zealander’s first match against Northern Suburbs was won by the visitors by four goals to nil, Smillie, the goalkeeper being the outstanding player. The scorers were: Dey 1, Roughton 2, and Watson 1. The New Zealanders will play Bathurst to-day and Newcastle on Saturday.
