MORRINSVILLE BOROUGH.
FORTNIGHTLY MEETING. NEW LIBRARIAN APPOINTED. (Times Representative.) MORRINSVILLE, Friday. The fortnightly meeting of the Morrinsville Borough Council was held last evening. Hie Mayor, Mr W. T. Osborne, presiding. Also present were Messrs *\V. Morrice, W. Hetherington. W. McPherson, T. Ryan, B. Chapman, and the town clerk, Mr A. G. Strahan. A letter was received from Hie Auckland Cycle Club expressing appreciation of the council’s offer of the cycling speedway at Morrinsville for Hie finishing point of the 100-mile North Island road championship later in Ihe year. The letter slated that., with about 100 riders taking part, the race would be the premier event of its kind in New Zealand this year. Following the resignation of Mr D Goodwin as librarian at the public library, Miss N. Cannan was appointed to the position. Reporting on a request for permission to convert an iron shed into a dwelling, the borough health inspector advised against the granting of the application on the grounds that such a course might lead to the formation of slum areas. The Mayor commented that it was usual for the applicant to submit plans In such a case, and the request was declined. Reference to the fact that Constable H. G. Hodge would shortly leave on transfer to Tauranga was made by Mr Hetherington. who stated that, while 1 lie had been in Morrinsville, Constable Hodge had always given unfailing service.
