LABOUR DISPUTES.
SETTLEMENT HOPED FOR. BUSMEN AND COLLIERY WORKERS LEADERS AND MINISTER CONFER. (Official Wireless.) (Received May 8, 1 p.m.) RUGBY, May 7. The prospects of an early settlement of the London omnibus strike and the Harworth Colliery dispute have improved. The Minister of Labour was visited by the leader of the Omnibusmen’s Union, Mr Ernest Bevln, and subsequently by officials of the Passenger Transport Board. THE COALFIELDS DISPUTE. NEGOTIATIONS PROCEEDING. FUSION OF UNIONS WANTED. (Official Wireless.) (Received May 8, 1 p.m.) RUGBY, May 7. The Nottinghamshire Colliery owners and autonomous union and the local union affiliated to the Federation ir-rcepted Captain H. F. Crookshanks’ Invitation to a conference, conditionally upon the federation definitely accepting the principle of a fusion of the two local rival unions and agreeing to submit to arbitration the points still outstanding from the previous negotiations for the amalgamation of the unions. The Federation was unable to agree to these conditions this morning. However, its executive later approved of one week’s suspension of the notices, to allow Captain Crookshank time, in the interests of a peaceful settlement, to try to arrange for an unconditional three-party conference. Captain Crookshank has asked the owneis and the local autonomous union to meet him on Monday. METAL WORKERS LOCKED OUT. 20,000 PEOPLE INVOLVED. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright.
