In the final tingles matches O. E. Malfroy defeated Ohoy, 6—l, 6—B, 6— l, and Khoalnkls defeated A. O. Btedman, 6—4, B—4, I—B, 6—3.
New Zealand next will play South Africa.

In the doubles to-day Crawford and Quist defeated Unda and Hernandez, 6 —2, 6—3. 6—3, after a straight midcourt Crawford’s overhead smashes outclassed the Mexicans. The manager, Mr Sprbule, is very satisfied and hopes the winning streak will continue. He says the team is in quite satisfactory form dnd will travel by train for New York to-mor-row. The players will rest for a few days and will practise for about 18 days. McGrath’s hand is much better and he uses owly a slight tape bandage. AMAZING BPEED. QUIST DEFEATS REYES. MEXICO CITY, April 30. Adrian Quist (Australia) defeated Reyes (Mexico), G —3, 6—i, 6—3, in the Davis Cup singles matche*. Reyes’ service was exceptionally weak. lie was resolute, but unequal to Quist, who in the first set established a s—o lead before the Mexican rallied and fought back, winning the next three in an amazing spurt of speed and accurate placing. The Australian increased his pace, however, and clinched the set and continued pressure in the next, which, despite Reyes’ determination and many deuces, only demonstrated the further disparity between the players.
Quist tired in the third and allowed the Mexican to amass a 3—2 lead. The Australian was listless and play was uninteresting, with only a few good rallies, both netting and outing. Quist was compelled to throw all his energy into the finish of the match. The court was drenched with perspiration, but Reyes was fresh.
AMERICA ELIMINATES JAPAN.

In the Davis Cup contest America hfl,s eliminated Japan by winning both singles yesterday and the doubles today. The scores were : Singles.—Budge defeated Nakano, o —l, 6—l, 6 —o; and Parker defeated Yamagishi, 6 —3, 2—6, B— o, 6 1. Budge obviously was off form but needed only his hard service and powerful placements. Nakano was nervous and virtually presented the victory to Budge. Yamagishi put in a hard fight against Parker and broke his service three times. In the third set the sixth game went to deuce eight t|mes. Yamagishi faltered In the fourth set. Parker was erratic and although the Japanese was steady and determined he was no match for Parker's periods of brilliance. Doubles.—Budge and Mako defeated Yfimag-Vihi and Nakano. 6—o. 6—l. 6—i. The Americans relaxed in the third set but won easily. They scored almost at will. America will next meet the Australian team. THE EUROPEAN ZONE. HOLLAND ELIMINATED. IRELAND v. SWITZERLAND. In tlje first round match at Amsterdam in the Davis Cup contest South Africa eliminated Holland, Farquharson and Kirby defeating van Swol and Hughan. 6—4, 6—3, 6—2. The opening single* match yesterday was won by Kirby, who defeated Trurhmacher, 6 —2, 7—5, B—6. His teammate Farquharson, defeated Hughan. 6—l, 6—i, 6—l. The Dutch champion, Timmer, was indisposed and was not available for play. At Montreaux, Switzerland, Lyttelton Rogers (Ireland) defeated Ellmer (Switzerland), B—6, I —6. 6—i. 6 3, but Fischer (Switzerland) beat McV'eagh (Ireland), 6—4, 6—2, 6 —l. In tbe doubles match Lyttelton Rogers and McVeagh defeated ManefT and Fischer. 6—o, 6—2. 5—7, 5—7, 6—4.
Hungary met Belgium at. Budapest. The first of the singles matches wan won by Hungary. Hallos defeating Lacroix, 1— 6. 7—9, 6—4, 6—3. 6—3. Lacroix had Injured his foot in the third set. Nayaert (Belgium) defeated Gaborl (Hungary). 7—5. 4—6. 4 —6, 6—o. 6 —\. after bad light had stopped piny yesterday at Hie end of the third set. The doubles matrh between Deborman and Geelhand (Belgium and Gaborl and Ferenezv, was won bv the former, 2—6, I—G, 6 —4, 4. 6—3.
