POPULAR RUGBY OFFICER

CAMBRIDGE FAREWELL. PRESENTATION TO MR DRAKE. (Special to Times.) CAMBRIDGE, Tuesday. The popular president or the Cambridge Rugby Sub-union lor the past two seasons, Mr W. Drake, is leaving Cambridge this week with his family to take up residence at St. Hellers, Auckland. At the end of last year Mr Drake (ex-Cambridge Postmaster) retired on superannuation after 40 years’ service. In presenting Mr Drake with a silver Inscribed cukestand, Mr D. J. Lundon paid a line tribute to Mr Drake’s services to Rugby while in Cambridge and to his able guidance of the sub-union as its president. Reing such an enthusiastic worker his place would he hard to nil. Various other club representatives and delegates endorsed the sentiments expressed by Mr Lundon. Inter-Union Scheme. In reply. Mr Drake voiced appreciation of the honour accorded him. He urged the union to hold rast to Victoria Square as its main playing a-ea and referred appreciatively to the co-operation or the controlling body—the Borough Council. MiDrake spoke strongly In favour or a subunion linking up with the inter-sub-union scheme introduced bv the Hamilton subunion and urged Cambridge to give It a trial this season. He assured the committee that he would continue to take the greatest interest in Cambridge and Waikato football.

The presentation was made with must cal honours and hearty cheers.

.T|he /oast of Mrs Drake and Miss Roma Drake was proposed by Mr T. F. Kerr, and many other toasts were proposed.

On Saturday members of the I’nited Club rarewelled Mr Drake at Messrs peer Bros.’ residence. Roto-rangi. During the evening Mi- Drake was the recipient of a pipe and tobacco.
