SUCCESS ENHANCED.

EXCELLENT PERFORMANCE OPERATIC SOCIETY’S “REVEILLE.” SECOND NIGHT OF SEASON. The success of the opening night of “Reveille," the Hamilton Operatic Society’s extravangaza, produced under the direction of Mr W. Lints, was enhanced last evening when the Theatre Royal was crowded for the second performance of the season. The popular variety of melody, comedy, chorus and dance was again well received and, with the majority of first night blemishes eliminated, a high standard of production was obtained. On the count of spectacle alone the numbers were warmly applauded and the brilliant stage pictures that were presented never failed to meet a ready response from the audience. The lack of tempo and finesse which was apparent to acute observers on opening night was redeemed completely and, from opening chorus to the final curtain, there was never a moment of suspense or dullness.

Two numbers by the Harmonic Four, Messrs K. P. Eade, G. A. Wheeler, E. H. Quill and J. T. Battersby, were among the most popular features while the principal soloists, Mrs A. C. Lavington, Miss Dulcie Evans, Miss Gladys Plummer and Messrs Kenneth Sandforcl, J. T. Battersby, Claude Belgrave, Cusack, W. Trenberth and Liddy, received enthusiastic ovations. The ballet work was again of a high standard, the scarecrow burlesque and the speciality dances arranged by Mr George Kingston in the cabaret scena being among the most popular. “Reveille” will be repeated in the Theatre Royal this evening and the final performance is to be given tomorrow night.
