A comprehensive report by a committee appointed to Investigate “'l9 lpossibillties or the suggestions of a Iremit, which urged that an auxiliary body of farm managers he prgnnised to do relieving duty on farms. was tabled at the Auckland Provincial Conference of the Fat'mers' Union today. The report was approved and it is |pro'bable that the scheme suggested will he carried out its an expel-mien! in the Te Awamutu and Tourangu (listriot's. The report, which was read by Mr M. E‘. Barrowclough, .\iorrinsville, sug< seated that a Labour Committee be set up within the executive of branches. together with a labour secretary. to carry out the work in connection with the scheme. The scheme would be confined to members of the union and all members who wished to come under the scheme would pay an annual subscription of £l, thus ensuring that. a fund be established whereby the group would be enabled to guarantee the full time wages of the manager appointed. The scheme should the confined to two areas for the first year. continued the report, and the province should be asked to guarantee up to £25 for each area to eommence the scheme. All members of the group who subscribed to the fund would have preference of a manager‘s services. The only time a manager‘s services would not be available outside the group would be when his services were not required by group members for any DUrpose. Any member outside the group who obtained the services of the manager in case of sickness or otherwise should be required to pay full rates. In the case of accident or sickness members of a group would receive the services '01" the manager at half rates for a maxim-um period of two weeks in one year. It would lbe recommended that under the scheme one permanent relieving manager be appointed at a wage 20 per cent. above standard rates, the group guaranteeing, the manager's full time salary.
