A Well-Balanced Cup Field

THIRTEEN IN BIG EVENT Enge Looks The Part NUN NICER & PRINCE COLOSSUS HAVE CHANCES {By “Martian”) The fields for the opening day of the summer meeting of the Waikato Raciiig Club are the best both from the point of quality and numbers that have come forward for a summer fixture in recent years. The racing surface at headquarters is in good order and some fine racing should be witnessed. Win and place betting will be in operation. The principal event on to-morrow’s card will be the Storey Memorial Handicap and the thirteen runners should provide an interesting contest. The absence of any outstanding performer should ensure a great betting race.

The top-weight Gay Rose registered her first success for some time when she led the Takapuna Cup field home last month and while she is well up in the weights she should nevertheless give a solid account of herself. The long Te Rapa straight will suit as she is a bold finisher. The success of Enge at Rotorua under a similar impost suggests excellent chances for the Lapidary gelding. He has -previously performed well here and should not fail on the score of condition. Nun Nicer has been off the 'scene for a spell but will need only to be produced fit and well to take a hand in the finish. When right there is no doubt that he represents useful class. Sinking Fund usually races well at Te Rapa and his success over a mile on the second day of the Rotorua meeting commends him. Now that he is in winning vein it may take a good one to beat him but he would 'be better preferred over a shorter distance than a mile and a quarter. Scotland is always liable to bob up and as far as weight is concerned has something in his favour. Tahurangi and Prince Golussus are

a pair of light-weight prospects but further down the handicap we also have Wait and See and Keith Lu who appeal. Wait anil See ran two good races at Rotorua and but for failing to go away well would have won on at least one day of the fixture. Keith Lu’s last performance at the Takapuna meeting at Ellerslie was really impressive. .He was left several lengths and early In the piece his task appeared hopeless but In the straight he came with a devastating run that left the opposition completely standing. The roomy straight here will give him every opportunity of repeating that fine effort. He was under a cloud early In the week, however. Day Wind should hold the others safe in a fine betting race in which, the public may place most reliance on the credentials of NUN NICER ENGE . PRINCE COLOSSUS
