AMONG THE MAIDENS.

Red Flame Fancied. LIBRA SHOULD RUN WELL Sweet Rose Has Shown Promise The opening event on to-mor-row’s card Is the Stakes, of six furlongs, and as is only to be expeoted at this time of the season there Is nothing outstanding In the held. Several likely improvers, however, catch the eye and they will be assured of strong support In the betting. Among these must be numbered Qlenacre, Orefleld, Mainland, Sweet Rose, Le Chasseur, Jan Rldd, Cyllaros, Übra and Red Flame. Tree of Heaven showed promise at the Pirongia non-totalisator meeting where he won the Maiden Handicap but he did not account for much and his task here will toe much harder. Full of Scotch is looking well but his form to date has not been goodEkanui and Heatherland have done little racing and their form is consequently not revealed. Worthy King, on the other hand, will have to show improvement to take a hand in the finish. He has proved a disappointment so far. One to show promise last season was Anagram but this will be his first appearance of the present term and he may need the race. He is looking well but a trifle pretty just yet. Glenacre commenced the season with a good reputation but to date his efforts have not been up to expectations although he is the type from whom rapid improvement can be expected. In his last essay he ran third to Needful and Armacourt at the Dargaville meeting at Avondale in December and has since been off the scene. Orefleld and Mainland are other likely sorts capable of upsetting calculations and another to make strong appeal is Sweet Rose who showed pace at the last Ellerslie meeting. The track trials of the Hunting Song colt, Le Chasseur, have been distinctly encouraging and he is sure to run prominently as long as his condition lasts. If a surprise is recorded it is quite on the cards it may come from this direction. Matoru and Jan Ridd are promising locals with chances in the class but a trio who may be preferred to them is Cyllaros, Libra and Red Flame. Libra has been in the money in her last three starts and Red Flame appears to be just coming to her best. These two especially appeal. Withal it is an open race and the favourites may include RED FLAME LIBRA SWEET ROSE.
