HISTORIC STONE.

PLACED IN BT. PETER'S. GIFT FROM CANTERBURY. This morning, at 7.30 o'clock, tht placing of an historic stone created a link between the Cathedral Church of St. Peter, Hamilton, and Canterbury Cathedral. The stone, which was dedicated by the Archbishop of Canterbury at the Empire Service in Canterbury Cathedral on June 15, last year, has been placed in a pillar on the south side of the nave, and on it lias been carved a cross of a design seldom if ever seen overseas. A plate which has been placed in position bears a Latin inscription, and the translation reads:— This cross is a copy of one made perhaps in Kent in the eighth century. It is set in stone taken from the walls of Christ Church, Canterbury. .\s the emblem of Salvation and the earnest of friendship it was given to this Cathedral by the Friends of Canterbury Cathedral, 1935. The Dean and Chapter, and all associated with the Cathedral Church in the diocese, are delighted to have this permanent link with the historic Cathedral at Canterbury, feeling thal it forms another tie and is evidence of the thoughtfulness and brotherhood of the Friends of Canterbury Cathedral.
