A FIRM SALE.
WOOL AT NAPIER. KEENNESS OF COMPETITION. ADVANCE IN PRICES. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) NAPIER, Thursday. Prices fully firm on the Wellington last weeki with keen and vigorous competition from the majority of sections of the trade, ruled at the third Napier wool sale to-day. There was an unusually large offering of 30,000 bales. Market and top-making wools were largely featured, and an excellent clearance was recorded. During the morning session passings l’or the first two catalogues were actually less than 3 per cent. Fine wools, compared with the last sale at Wellington, were very firm but not better compared with the last Napier sale. Medium coarse crossbred was quoted from a farthing to a halfpenny dearer. Bellies and pieces were very firm; lambs’ wool was firm on Wellington, but from Id to lid dearer than the last sale here. Between 10’d and 13d was obtained for hoggets. The top prices this morning were 16£d for halfbreds and 10J.d for .Corriedales. Bradford was not as active as at Wellington, but the Continent and Japan were bidding keenly. Germany also was not as much in evidence “as at Wellington.
