SIR' SAMUEL HOARE. , LOST PUBLIC CONFIDENCE. LONDON, Dec. 19. In the House of Commons Sir Samuel Hoare said he felt he had not the confidence of a great body of opinion in the country which was essential to a Foreign Secretary. He hopes his successor would have better luck. He was deeply moved in his closing words, and left the House a few minutes after his speech. Henry Martin ' Murphy (27), printer, was to-day convicted of intoxication whilo in charge of a motorcar and was fined £5 with costs and his license cancelled for a year. The case arose from an accident in which tho car collided with verandah posts of a shop. Murphy was tho owner of the car, but a passenger had seized the wheel, twisting it to avoid hitting tho shop, and so mixed waa thoir pooition that the people who came up did * not know which was the driver.
