STEADY DEMAND.

CHRIBTMAS SHOPPING. ROLLING STOCK WANTED. He stood In front of a shop window, his little nose flattened against the plateglass. Inside that window there was evidence that somewhere there lived a man who knew exactly what boys needed, and could supply the goods. There was a train, with real rails, and a station. What more could a chap want? “Mum,” he said. “Here’s a twain.’’

Mum paid no attention. She was explaining to a friend that mother wanted them all to go home for Christmas Day, but it was really not possible. “Mum I’ came the little voice again. “Here’s a twain." There was a sharp instruction to he quiet, hut that would not do. “Here Is a twain,” lie said. The conversation on this one-sided basis might have gone on for some time, but suddenly the budding engineer darted along tiic footpath and made a good flying tackle on a man’s leg. “Dad," he exclaimed; “there’s a twain with weal wails." Dad smiled. “Dad! You pwoinised me a twain."

Dad denied it. All lie had done was to promise that Santa Claus was informed that a train was required urgently. “Dad, will you tell him that that’s the sort I want?” Dad saw his way to promise that, and hand in hand father amt son went into (lie next shop in search of lollies. But If Santa Claus falls to deliver a twain in some house on Christinas morning in all probability there will he some bother.
