LABOUR DAY WORKERS. (|jy Teiegrnph—l’rcsi Association.) WIOLLINGTON, Tucsday. A retrospective payment totalling £2BOO and affecting i 150 men has been untilorisei 1 by the .Minister of Public Works, the lion. it. Semple, in connection with relict' workers who were engaged on public works on Labour Day. The position is that permanent employees were .paid tor the holiday, but relief workers were not paid. The .Minister indicated .Hint he proposed shortly lo wipe out the discrimination between Maori and pakeha engaged as relief workers on public works. Mr Semple also said that in future no tent rental would lie charged by the Public Works Department for married men who had their wives with them.
