HINEMOA PARK.

IMPROVEMENTS WANTED. REPORT TO BE OBTAINED. •The uneven nature of the surface of Hinemoa Park, which precluded its use for ground ball games, such as cricket, and for athletic sports, was referred lo in a letter from the chairman of the Hinemoa Park Committee, Mr A. S. Cliffe, labled at the Borough Council meeting last evening. Ho stated that, as the committee itself had no major source of revenue a project to secure proper surface drainage was the problem, but, failing immediate hope of a major scheme it might bo possible to improve the surface by top-dressing the lower portions of ilie ground and running tracks and trimming the more uneven portions.

Mr W. W. Diliicar asked whether the Domain Board, as owners of the property, should not be approached. The Mayor, Mr J. R. Fow, said it was probably Intended that the council should place relief workers on the area.

As one of the trustees of the area, Mr W. A. Curteis, said the committee had endeavoured to make cricket pitches on Hie park without success. However, the area was very useful for winter uso and highly suitable for school sport, providing it was put in order. The undertaking would not he a big one. He considered it was a great opportunity for the council io place the ground In order at little cost for the use of children. The opinion that the 'Domain Board should have been approached and that the council could do little, without co-operating with the board was expressed by Mr J. E. Tidcl.

The borough engineer was instructed lo report on the matter to the Works r.ommitlcc.
