TIME FOR LOWERING. MR GOODFELLOW’S VIEWS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) AUCKLAND, Tuesday. . The opinion that the time had arrived when serious consideration should be given to the reduction of New Zea.and’s high exchange rate, was expressed to-day by Mr William Goodfeliow. He said the raising of the rate had given some immediate benefit, but with increasing internal costs, any advantage obtained by the producer was rapidly disappearing. During the election campaign efforts would be made to justify Hie high exchange policy, and he desired to point out that there were possibilities of serious repercussions, lie was of the opinion that New Zealand had a wonderful opportunity to-day to give a lead to the Empire by making a concrete offer to the British Government of a treaty on a reciprocal trade basis. The free market for our dairy produce was not likely to last much longer, as the Danish agreement yould expire on April 24. Britain would then Impose duties. Preference was to be given to the Dominions but even so, the duty on butter and cheese and especially on by-products would lie a serious matter, and every possible avenue of escape should be explored at the earliest possible moment-
DEATH OF MANAGER. DISCOVERY AT HOME. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.l AUCKLAND, Tuesday. George Pollock, aged 49, general manager and secretary of Pukemiro Collieries was found dead this morning, scaled in a chair at his home. An inquest will he held. Mr Pollock was a married man, and served in the Great War.
