Prior memorial prize, 1935, for the best novel by an Australian writer is Mrs L. C. Rodd: for her novel entitled “Tiburon." This deals with an Australian country town in the Lawson tradition. Mrs Rodd is only 23 years old. She is the wife of a country schoolteacher, ■ Among five other stories highly commended was “The Papuan," by Monte H. Holcroft, a New Zealand journalist and author, a novel by whom was highly commended in 1928 In the Bulletin prize novel competition. The trustees of the Prior prize received and considered 215 manuscripts in this year’s competition.
