IRISH FREE STATE
ANXIOUS FOR PEACE.
REQUEST BY MR DE VALERA. MISGUIDED PEOPLE OF ULSTER. United Press Assn.—Eiee. Tel. Copyright. DUBLIN, July 25. “ Religion is being used to cloak mean and shabby things,” said Mr De Valera in the Dail, referring to “unfortunate happenings in another part of the country." “ The citizens of Ireland are only too anxious to live in peace and friendship,” added Mr De Valera. “The foreign Power which, created this situation by refusing to allow the people to settle their own differences cannot escape responsibility. “ I deplore the recent reprisals In the* Free State. The Government will see that as far as possible the guilty, who have shamed the Free State, are treated with the full vigour of thp law. j “ I hoped the misguided people of Ulster 'still realise that they are being exploited politically. Then the Irishmen’s ideal of living together .as Irishmen in their own land will soon be fulfilled.”
