Daughter Born to Norma Shearer. Miss Norma Shearer, the Canadianborn film star, has given birth to an 81b. daughter at HollywoodMiss Shearer, who in private life is Mrs Irving Thalberg, is already the mother of a boy, who was born in 1930.
Recently she announced that after the birth of her baby she would like to go to England to make a picture, but she of all -have to make a film at Hollywood of “Marie Antoinette.”
Film Stars at Fanoy Dress Ball. Many celebrities of the, film world attended a fancy dress ball given in Hollywood by the Countess di Frasso. iM-arlene Dietrich appeared as __ a swan; Ruth Chatterton, as Josephine Baker, with Clifton Webb, as a Chinese mandarin; Dolores del Rio, as Carmen, with Glive Brook, -as a Russian diplomat. ' Charlie Chaplin was a Tibetan priest, and attended with Paulette •Goddard, his leading lady in his latest film.
Leslie Howard’s Next Film. Jack Warner won’t lend Leslie Howard to any company to play “ 'Hamlet.” While in New York, he made arrangements to ' buy Robert Sherwood’s play, “ -Petrified Forest," for Howard and it will be one of Leslie’s first for Warner-Brothers when he returns (from New Yodk, where he is appearing -on the stage.
Ramon Novarro for London Stage. A very happy Ramon Novarro says that as soon -as he takes his picture, “ Against the Current,” to Buenos Aires and Rio -de Janeiro he will head for London.
J. L. Sachs, -London producer, has engaged Ramon to be starred in a -musical comedy, ’* Royal Exchange.”
Greta Garbo’s Unhappy Romance. It is -said that 'Greta Garbo is extremely unhdppy oyer her romance with George Brent! Believe it -or not, 'the greatest screen vamp of modern times is reported to have fallen desperately in love with the handsome Brent.
And when Brent, who loves to fly and play tennis, seemed to prefer his
