SKIPPED IN AIR.

STANNAGE GAINS “TITLE.” ON TIIE SOUTHERN CROSS. Dir John Stannage, radio operator of Hie Southern Cross on historic flights, has a souvenir of the last flight of the Old Bus and a new “world title," says a Sydney paper. He is the only man, it is claimed, ever to have skipped in llie air. Stannage cut off a 7ft piece of wire leading from the battery to Hie navigation lights, while Smithy was flying * to Richmond. Then, using it as a rope, he skipped in the cabin of the famous ’plane. Flying-Officer B. Sbiel and Uev. C. G. Scrim geo,ur took from the keyhole of the cabin door a piece of hoop-iron which years ago was fashioned into a key. They pinned it to Slannagc’s coat lapel and conferred on him the Order of the Only Dlan to Skip in llie Air.
