SIGNS OF RECOVERY.

I (To the Editor.) J Sir, —I was interested to read the letter on Mr Chamberlain’s speech on the wonderful recovery the Homeland has made towards a sound recovery, and I would like to draw the readers’ attention to the position of our own oountry.now compared with 1932. In that year there was no oxport price for beef; it is now 235, and in some cases 23s 6d; tallow was practically worthless, and now the soapworks, etc., pay 30s per cwt for it; a farmer destroyed a hide off a beast when he killed, and now a light one is worth from 10s to £l. I looked iup the price of fat stock at Westfield the first week in July, and found beef was 19s, heavy prime wethers 13s 6d to 15s, heavy prime ew’es 7s to 10s 6d, extra heavy prime lambs 13s to 16s, runners 16s to 555, vealers 12s to 41s, baconers 34s to 51s. —I am, etc., FARMER. Auckland, July 18, 1935.
