Sir, —Having read In your paper that there was to be a change in the charges for electricity in Hamilton I have asked several &• to what It will mean, but have been Unable to secure the desired Information. Will yob please explain the change through your columns, as I presume there are hundreds like myself who do not know?—l am, etc., A.B.C. Frankton, July 17, 1935. A new system of charging for domestic supply on a maximum demand basis will be introduced in Hamilton on October 1. Consumers will be graded on their average monthly consumption of lighting units for the past year, and the average will bo taken as their maximum demand. K, for instance, a consumer used an average or up lo eight .units lie will lto charged at the rate of 5Jd less id discount per unit, for the first eight units per month used under the now system, and 2d, loss id discount, for all units in excess or this number up lo 80. All units in excess of the monthly minimum will be 'Charged at 2d for first additional 80, less id discount per unit, and the balance at id per unit net, with a minimum charge of 2s per month. Most consumers will be placed on one meter, which will include lighting and power consumed by radio sets, electric irons and radiators. Pending ibis proposed change in the method of assessing the domestic consumption, charges for private houses, on readings taken on and after July 1. have been reduced by 10 per cent, of the amount of the net, account to a minimum of 4s per month.
