CASES FROM COUNTRY.

CONSIDERATION BY COMMITTEE. It was decided at a meeting of the general committee of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Crippled Children’s Society to invite all local bodies in the Auckland Province who had contributed to the annual revenue account of the branch to nominate as members of the branch persons in each locality calculated to be likely to give the greatest possible help to the movement. It was also decided to invito each local body in the Auckland Province to select the personnel of local auxiliaries who would locate cripples in the district, report upon their medical and educational needs and recommend in respect to the financial position of their families. The medical sub-committees presented a report on the result of clinical examination of 154 cripples which had been carried out by Dr. lv. S. Macky at the Seddon Memorial Technical College during the past month. Survey showed that the principal needs were in respect to education, vocational training and the placing in employment of cripples, but that food, clothing and medical treatment required supervision. It was recommended that the Auckland branch should follow the scheme under which the New Zealand Institute for Blind functions, and that while there were 21 cases in Ihe Auckland Metropolitan area who might be considered suitable for institutional care the number of cases in the province was not yet ascertained. It was decided to seek information in respect to country cripples from schools, from the Health Department, from the Rotary Clubs and to invite application from parents whose circumstances were such that their children could only be adequately prepared for their life’s work through admission to the proposed Wilson Home at St. Leonard's. It was decided to appeal to the transport authorities to give consideration to the needs of crippled children travelling for medical treatment or education training.
