SLIGHT INCREASE IN BRITAIN. ANNUAL CHARGE REDUCED. United Press Assn.—Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, June 18. The Chancellor of the Exchequer, Mr Neville Chamberlain, stated in the House of Commons to-day that since the National Government came into power the nominal capital of the national debt had slightly increased, but the annual charge had been greatly reduced.

The increase was partly due to borrowing £350,000,000 by tho issue ■of Treasury hills for the Exchange Equalisation Fund.
