BILL IN HOUSE OF LORDS. SECOND READING MOVED. FULFILMENT OF PLEDGE. United Press Assn. —Elec. Tel. Copyright. LONDON, June 18. The new Secretary of State for India, the Marquess of Zetland, moved the second reading of the Government of India Bill in the House of Lords this afternoon.
Huron Lloyd moved the rejection of clauses dealing with Hie Federation, as inexpedient and dangerous. The least considered of all aspects of Hie India question was that of imperial defence, in which connection the Dominions ought lo have been consulted. Baron Snell said llio decisive factor was that Hie House of Commons had passed the Bill. When it became law Indians would be as free as a bird when put In a bigger cage. Viscount llai'dinge said bis information from India was that there was a general inclination to accept (lie bill as a genuine advance towards the fulfilment, of the British Parliament’s pledge. The debato was adjourned.
