The death of a woman at an openair meeting of -Black Shirts (Fascists) at Bootle, Lancashire, resulted in extraordinary scenes. An angry crowd followed a van containing the speakers to the Fascists' headquarters, where they broke every window with stones and remained shouting imprecations until the police arrived in motor-cars. The woman, Mrs Evans, had gone to the meeting, which was held near her home, jn order to find four of her seven children. The meeting was lively and there was some disturbance at question time. Mrs Evans was found on the ground at the close of the proceedings. The crowd immediately rushed the Fascists’ van.
The woman’s husband, realising that his wife was dying, igent for a priest. When Mrs Evans died her body was taken to a hospital where It was stated that no marks cf violence were found. It is understood that death was due to natural causes.
