SWEEPING VICTORY.
THE GREEK ELECTIONS.
THE GOVERNMENT RETURNED,
RATIFYING NEW CONSTITUTION

1 The Government secured a sweeping victory in the elections for the National Assembly. It received 32,480 votes, from 124 districts, compared with 8678 votes received toy the Monarchist opposition. It-will be the new Assembly’s task to ratify the new constitution. There have been Monarchist demonstrations every day. The contestants were:—The Populist Party, which supports the Government; 'the Monarchist Union, led by General Metaxas, who declared that, if successful, it would bring ex-King George back to the throne; the Popular Party, which supports the Republican regime, but stated that if •.. majority of the National Assembly favoured the restoration of the monarchy a free plebiscite would be held. The Premier, M. Tsaldarls, always has been a monarchist, but he wanted a clear mandate for the restoration of George to the throne.
