CONGESTED POST OFFICE.
POSITION IN TE AWAMUTU. REPLY FROM MINISTER. TE AWAMUTU, Friday. Acknowledging representations made to the Postmaster - General regarding the great congestion at the Te Awamutu Post Office, due to lack of suitable staffing accommodation, the Hon. S. G. Smith has now intimated that plans for extensive alterations and additions to the building are already completed, and it -should now be a matter -of a few weeks only before action is taken preparatory to -calling tenders for the work. The remodelled accommodation will be adequate for the district’s needs for some years to -come. The proposals include Increased telephone exchange accommodation to house modern telephone switching equipment, and the subscribers to the telephone exchange will have an up-to-date manual system. Automatic telephone exchange apparatus cannot be provided for Te Awamutu yet, as there are other centres where the need is much more urgent, and these have to be dealt wlt-h in order of importance.
