The King and Queen were present at a charity matinee performance at the Drury Lane Thcat.ro this aflernoun, in honour of the stage jubilee of the great comedy actress, .Mario Tempest.
Their Majesties presented Miss Tempest with signed photographs of themselves and joined in the prolonged applause which followed Mario Tempest's acting of old favourite parts, including a scene from “ The Marriage of Kitty.”
The company chaired Marie Tempest to the footlights, where she thanked the audience for providing 25000 to establish a Marie Tempest Ward for theatricals at St. George’s Hospital.
Marie Tempest, who was born in JBGi, is married lo Graham Browne, actor-producer. She first made her name in comic opera, and then became equally successful in “straight” plays. One of her greatest successes was scored in “The Marriage of Kilty.”
In I IMS Miss Tempest and Mr Browne toured New Zealand in “Mr Pirn Passes By” and oilier plays.
