Arthur Hinsley, the only English Canon of the Basilica of St.-Peter, Rome. - As Monsdgnor Hinsley is already a Bishop there will.be no need for a consecration ceremony. He will, however, receive the Pallium on his appointment as Archbishop.

The; Pallium will toe taken out on the order of the Pope and presented to tlie new Archbishop at-St. Peter’s toy one of the Cardinal deacons, after ■which Monsignor Hinsley will leave for London, where be will present his papers to the Vicar 'Capitular and tho 'Chapter at Westminster, and then will follow the enthronement cere- j mony in the Cathedral. j Monsignor Hinsley was for five ■jears headmaster of St. Bede’s Gram- , mar School, Bradford. | From 1904 he was successively j pastor of Sutton Park and Sydenham, ! and in 1917 was appointed rector of the English College at Rome. In 1930 the Pope conferred on him the further distinction of titular Archbishop of Sardes. I

•Monsignor Ilinsley has also been Apostolic Visitor to African Missions in British territory, and until last year he was Apostolic Delegate in Africa. On his resignation from that post, because of illness, he was made a Canon of the Basilica of St. Peter. lie is very well known In 'Rome, and has earned the respect ancl esteem of both the British clergy and the Roman curia.

lie recently delivered an address of thanks to the Pope on the occasion of the recadlng of the decree authorising the canonisation of British martys.
