CHARGED BY A STAG.
PARTY NEAR LAKE TAUPO. MORRINSVILLE STALKER’S ESCAPE! A savage charge was made by a wounded slag at Mr F. Livingstone, of •Morrinsville, who, with three companions, has returned after several days’ stalking at the back of Lake Taupo, says the Taranaki Herald. A second shot dropped the stag when it was only a few yards away from Mr Livingstone.
The party, comprising Messrs Livingstone, C. B. Way, F. Hirst and W. Ivutz, all of Morrinsville, saw a fine twelve-pointer shortly after , they had established their camp. Mr Livingstone fired, but only wounded the animal, which promptly charged ( him. Reloading rapidly, the stalker fired again, and succeeded in dropping the stag when it was uncomfortably close. He said later,that he had-not previously been charged by a stag and the experience was decidedly unplca^anL
