UNEMPLOYMENT LEVY.
PAYMENT NEXT MONTH. 'QUARTERLY CHARGES DUE. Elsewhere in this issue appears an intimation toy tho Unemployment Board that on May 1 the usual quarterly instalment of the general employment levy will toecome due, anil that on the same date will also fall due the lOd in the £ on income other than salary or wages derived^ during the year ended March 31, 1935. All male persons, including Natives, of 20 years of age or over (except those wholly exempt from payment of the general unemployment levy) are required in May each year to furnish declarations of income other than salary or wages. If no such income is derived a “nil’! declaration is required. A woman whoso income other than salary or wages exceeds £SO must also furnish a declaration in respect of her income. This applies also.to native women.
It is pointed out that persons who fail to furnish declarations as and when required render themselves liable on summary conviction lo a line of £SO. A penalty equal lo 10 per cent, of the amount of lax due will be added .to any Instalment not, paid within one month of the due date.
The Unemployment Board draws attention to the fact that, in many instances unemployment relief stamps denoting payment of wages lax are not being cancelled in I lie prescribed manner, and to protect themselves employees should isee that all such stamps are effectively cancelled by a signature or initials and the date of payment.
