Lord Blcdisloe, offered to the trustees of the National Gallery a portrait painting of Lord Rutherford. ilis Excellency- stated that lie had arranged with Oswald Birley to paint a replica of Hie portrait painted for the Royal Ins lit u lion. The Prime Minister, lion. G. W. Forbes, said Hie hoard was most happy to accept Hie portraits for Hie Dominion. and assured His Excellency that the people most deeply appreciated his thoughtful and generous" action. His Excellency's Portrait Wanted. From many quarters, said Mr Forbes, there had come a suggestion that His "Excellency’s connection with the Dominion and the affectionate regard which he had instilled into Hie hearts of the people might be perpetuated by a portrait in the National Gallery. The trustees would he most grateful if lie could sec his way to consent to sit for a portrait by some eminent artist when he returned lo England. The portrait, when finished, would be purchased and form part of the national art collection. His Excellency replied that he would Teel it a great honour to have his portrait included in the National Art Gallery.
