BANKRUPT AGENT.

DEALINGS IN CARS. “ CONTINUED MISFORTUNE." • CREDITORS’ MEETING ADJOURNED. There being insufficient creditors present to form a quorum the meeting .called at the Offloial Assignee’s offloe this morning, in the bankrupt estate of George Edgar Hare, agent, of Taupiri, was adjourned. Bankrupt's schedule disclosed debts amounting to £252 9s 4d, there being no assets. Bankrupt, in his written statement, attributed his failure to continued misfortune end lack of steady remunerative employment and also, to some extent, to the costs and expenses entailed in working with a second-hand car.

For about 15 years he was employed as departmental manager to Williams and Kettle, Ltd., of Napier, general merchants, and resigned to take up a position with tire Hawke’s Bay Farmers’ Co-operative Association, of Dannevirke. He was with the firm for some five and a-half years. In 1928 bankrupt took over a small fancy goods and stationery business at Papakura, but this proved a failure and what little capital he had accumulated was lost. After being employed on wages as a country traveller for a Hamilton auctioneering firm ho left to acoept a position on a commission basis, and this proved a disappointment, his earnings averaging but £2 a week. He was forced to run up accounts, and repairs to a second-hand car further increased his liability. Eventually he lost his car by seizure and for six months he was forced to go on relief and take on what odd jobs were offering. Later bankrupt secured another position—selling rubberware on commission, and £5 was advanced him to enable a deposit on a car to bo paid. Further misfortune resulted in ids debts accumulating. It bad been necessary for him to run a car and most of the accounts owing were in respect of second-hand cars and the repairs necessitated in this connection.
