MR FULTON’S FUNERAL.
LAST RITES PERFORMED.
TRIBUTES AT GRAVESIDE. About 300 cars made the journey from Hamilton to Pukekohe to attend the funeral of the late Mr Dynes Fulton to-day, At the Whangarata School a touching incident was to he seen in the line of 'children assembled to pay their last tribute to the deceased. Tuakau was thrown into mourning, the streets 'being lined with silent figures. Members of the Tuakau Cricket Club lined up with bowed beads. The Franklin Racing Club’.s grounds were passed at 2 p.m. in heavy rain and the burial service had to he postponed about 20 minutes on aceount of the downpour.
At the graveside the last portion of the burial service was read by the Rev. J. Pattison of Pukekohe, who emphasised the great sense of loos which would be felt all over the Dominion as the result of Mr Fulton’s death. He said the whole of New Zealand and particularly the dairying and farming 'communities were indebted to Mr Fulton for dedicating his life work to them. He added that Mr Fulton not only possessed his religion but he lived it." 'As a husband, father, friend citizen and patriot he possessed sterling qualities- After years of struggle and .service he had gained his reward and entered into eternal happiness. The Masonic ceremonial was observed, members of the Lodge Tuakau of which the late Mr Fulton was a member passing beside the grave. Eaoh deposited a sprig of acacia on the . casket. Several brief words of tribute were spoken by Mr R. J. Pattin, a past-master of Lodge Tuakau. At the graveside the Last Post was sounded by a bugler. The Pukekohe Borough Council was represented by Mr J. Routley, while Messrs W. A. Phillips (chairman of directors) and H. F. Saunders (secretary) attended on behalf of the New Zealand Co-operative Pig Marketing Association. Mr C. L. Mac Diarmid represented the Grand Lodge of Freemasons, and the representative of the New Zealand Farmers’ Union was Mr H.'O. Mellsop. Mr G. Ward, of Papakura, as the only surviving member of the contingent in which Mr Fulton went to the Boer War, was also present.
