“SOCIALISED DAIRYING.”
BUT NOT BANKING. DOUGLAS CREDIT VIEWPOINT. / “In the dairy legislation we have the Government attempting to socialise' ('under the guise of planning) one of the most valuable industries in the Dominion," stated Mr G. A. Barrell, president of the 'Hamilton District Council of the Douglas Social Credit Movement, in a report adopted at 'Saturday’s meeting of the Council. “There can be no question that the dairy farmers have done their 'job, and done it magnificently, when they were asked to increase production; the volume of our exports reveals that," said Mr Barrell. “Yet when the financiers, who have, palpably failed at their job, which Is' to facilitate the exchange of goods and services, are told by ms that their activities must be controlled by a public authority responsible to the people as a whole and not to private individuals for private profit, immediately a cry of ‘political Interference’ is raised.
“To socialise the dairy industry which has succeeded, is regarded as ‘parliamentary control,’ but to socialise the banking industry, which has failed, is execrated as .‘political interference.’"
