BETTER WATER SUPPLY.

TE AWAMUTU AND DISTRICT. PIRONGIA MOUNTAIN RESERVOIR. A very interesting ceremony took place on the slopes of Pirongia Mountain on Wednesday afternoon, in the presence of several councillors and burgesses of the borough, and also Messrs. J. VV. Campbell (consulting engineer), R. J. Terry (district health officer, Hamilton), and T. Steel (one of the oldest residents or Plrongla). It was the occasion of the turning-on of the improved water supply for the borough or Te Awamutu and neighbourhood, work upon which has been in progress for several months.

The Mayor (Mr C. G. Downes) explained that the ceremony was intended to commemorate another mark of progress in Te Awamutu’s development, it was just over 22. years since the first poll was carried, authorising expenditure of loan money totalling £ IS,OOO, for constructing waterworks and reticulating the town. The years had rolled on, and the need for an augmented supply was imperative, so a loan was sanctioned by the ratepayers for enlarging the existing service. The present consulting engineer had estimated that the daily consumption now is 201,000 gallons, and provision has been made for the growth or the town.

The Mayoress was then called upon to turn on the water in the now 12-inch mains, thus forcing up the pressure all along the line fo Te Awamutu and throughout the borough.
