MEETING OF SOCIETY. SOCIAL 'GATHERING HELD. FUTURE PLANS DISCUSSED. Many suggestions to further beautify 'Hamilton in future years were discussed at a social gathering of the Hamilton Beautifying' Sooiety, when tile president of the society, Mr. W. H. Paul, entertained the members of the committee at his home last evening. There were presefit Dr. H. Douglas, Messrs. W. G. ‘Pountney. E. Quick, R. Parr, J. F. Strang, J. H. Edgecumtoe, F. W. Hare,* H. Mercer, G, Moore and A. Beuth. Apologies were received from Dr. H. E. Harris and Mr. R. C. Fowler. The occasion marked the final meeting for the year of the. society. The foreman, Mr. W. A. Wallis, sent along a collection of varied beautifully coloured hydrahgeß, the specimens, arranged in a box, presenting a magnificent sight. ) Some of the plants were rarely coloured with serrated edges. . It was decided to congratulate the foreman on the beautiful display and make, arrangements for the exhibition of the flowers, in a shop window in Victoria Street,;The foreman also reported that the two bower birds premised by Mr. T. Pearson had arrived and .wore penned In their new cage. The secretary was instructed to write .a letter of thank's - to, Mr. Pearson for the generous and much appreciated gift. Damage to Parana Park. A letter was i-Pad from the chairman of the Hamilton West School Parents’ Association, repudiating the report of the foreman that the children damaged Parana Park during the association’s arthudl fete on the park arid (Messrs. J. F. Strang, T. G. Reynolds and R. Parr were appointed a sub-committee to Investigate the report. The secretary, Mr. ,'G. Moore, reported that the expenditure of the society for the month of November was £124 lis, while the total expenditure for the year to the end of November was £943. An anomynous donor offered to supply the society with several varieties of flowering trees and the offer was gratefully accepted, members expressing their appreciation of the donor’s action.' , • Dr H. Douglas reported that he could secure 2000 bluebell bulbs, half for the society and half for the Domain .'Board at a reasonable figure. Authority was given to Dr. Douglas to secure the 1000 bulbs for the society, the chairman mentioning that they would probably be planted on the bank in 'Parana Park. > Appreciation of Work,

As a token of appreciation for the untiring and earnest work'of Mr/ A. Beuth Who was hqn. secretary to the society for ten years before. he retired this year, members of the society presented |Mr. Beuth with a suitahlyinscribed silver entree dish, In malting the presentation the president, Mr. Paul, referred' eulogisticallj to the work of Mr. 'Beuth and expressed the regret of the society that he had retired. Dr. bouglas and Mr. Hare also extolled the work of Mr. Beitth who suitably replied. ■Mr. Paul then entertained the committee to supper and a general discussion followed on future plana to further beautify the town. The more extensive planting of trees in streets especially in Frank ton, was favourably commented upon wlijle the possibility of beautifying the approaches and surroundings of. the new traffic bridge when it was completed was also mentioned. ' At the conclusion of the evening, Dr Douglas, on behalf of the members, thanked Mr. Paul for the enjoyable evening and expressed the society’s confidence In him as their chairman. “ There is no doubt thg Mr. Paul, in a large measure, Is responsible that Hamilton is,: perhaps, the most beautiful town in New Zealand. lie lias certainly done a wonderful amount of wbrk ill beautify Ing the town," added Dr. Douglas.
