THE SILVER DRAWER.

LINIfyG WITH GREEN BAIZE. It is quite useful to have the insides of drawers in tables and dressers, especially where silver is kept, lined with green baize. The baize must be properly put on so that there Is no trace of the adhesive showing on the upper surface. For the adhesive you can use either bookbinders’ paste or the following preparation: —A breakfastspoonful of flour should be placed in a large basin and stirred to a smooth consistency with cold water, then add enough boiling water to make a stiff, firm paste In the ordinary way. If it does not “jellify” properly put it into a clean saucepan over a slow gas, and stir until sufficiently thickened. Next stir in a ! dessertspoonful o,f powdered resin, whilst the paste Is still hot, and It is ready for use. Gut the baize slightly smaller than the spaoe to be covered and sponge It thoroughly with hot water, pressing and rolling it out firm and flat with a round ruler. Next spread the paste on evenly, but take care that it does not come through to the other side. Then let it stay whilst you coat the drawer In a similar way. Lift your baize and lay it on, pressing down the centre portion first when it is Jn the correct position, and smoothing gently towards . the outer edges. When it is properly set, .sponge off any excess of paste from the edge and drive a small thin brad or pin into each corner, and leave it until Uio baize is quite dry and hard.
