WOMEN’S INSTITUTE.

MEETING AT RAGLAN. At the monthly meeting of the Raglan Women's Institute Mrs- Bernard presided over' a good attendance of members. .The meeting opened with the singing of the National Anthem and the president welcomed the visitorsMiss 'Gilmour read an interesting letter from the Link in England. It was 'decided to chaJllenge the bowlers to a debate to be held early in .December. Mrs. J. B. Jackson read a paper on District High Schools, and it was decided to approach the W.D.F.U. in the surrounding districts to obtain their support to establish one at RaglanMr. E. W. Hird, M.A., gave a most interesting address on Salt Lake City, and a hearty vote of thanks was accorded > him. The hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames L. Watson, J. M. Thompson, E. J. Earl, Painter and B. H. Pegler. GLEN MASSEY BRANCH. There was an attendance of well over one hundred at the Birthday Party, held on Saturday, to celebrate the third anniversary of the Glen Massey Women’s InstituteThe president, Mrs. R. Tan’fleld, welcomed the members and vlsitois, among whom were representatives of Ngaruawahia, Horotiu, Pukemiro and Glen Afton institutes. ' After the ordinary business had been transacted, the following much-appre-ciated items were given:—Vocal solo 3, Mrs. Kelly, of Ngaru'awahia, and Mrs. Smith; duet, Misses M- Brockett and Lees; recitations, Mrs. J. Kelly and Mrs. Grant; pianoforte solo, Miss Lees; sketch, Mesdames J. Foster and Brunsldll; one-act play, six of the members. , I Two competitions were held, MrsBrunskill and Miss M. Lees being the winners. The president presented Miss Lees with a crystal vase as prize Tor most points for the year, and Mrs. H. Brown with a jardiniere as a token of the Institute’s appreciation of her generous help during the year. The representatives of the visiting institutes each presented the Glen Massey president with a beautiful bouquet in honour of the occasion The birthday cake was made by Mrs. J. W Brown and decorated by Mrs. Smith. Mrs. Brunskill was MisWess of Ceremonies and the hostesses for the afternoon were Mesdames S. Fowler, J .'Kelly, T. Kerr.-, C. Swales and Misses 0. Fowler and M. Brockett.
