WHEAT FOR WAIKATO.
BULK SUPPLY QUESTION. • ARRANGEMENT DESIRED. The possibility of hulk supply of wheat from the Soulh Island for pig and poultry food to Waikato farmers was mentioned by Mi; W. Mulhollan'd, president of the New Zealand Wheatgrowers’ Federation, in an address at Hamilton yesterday. Mr Mulholland said wheat could be shipped to Hamilton from the South Island via Waikato Heads at 12.3 d per bushel and oats at 9.1 d. The wheatgrowers were anxious to deliver wheat to farmers at a price which they could afford to pay. Mr C. Tennant said ho had heard that wheat was rotting in Canterbury, while Waikato pigs were starving for it. Mr S. N. Ziman, who presided, considered lie was expressing the views ol most Waikato dairy farmers when he said that they objected not so much to wheatgrowers, but to those making undue profits out of the industry. They would not object to the duties so much if the producers wore getting the benefit, even though they were opposed lo llic whole principle of protection. Mr Mulholland said the wheatgrowers were ready to discuss with the Pig Marketing Association, or any other body interested, the question of reaching a working agreement.
