A BRUTAL ATTACK.
MANAGER BEATEN SENSELESS. THIEVES SECURE £6O. MELBOURNE, August 31. Brutally attacked by two men, who leaped upon him from the shadows in a lane at the rear of V. Angliss and Company’s branch butchery in Nicholson Street, Carlton, about 3 a.m. today, Harry Travers, 24, manager of the branch, was beaten senseless and robbed of a bag containing about £OO In cash and notes. Still suffering from severe injuries and shock, Mr Travers is unable to give a clear account of the assault, but thinks that bis assailants struck him with the butt end of a revolver, and then kicked him' as lie lay on the ground. Recovering consciousness, with blood streaming from a gash in his head, Travers staggered in a da?ed condition into Pigdon Street, where a passing milkman came to tiis aid. He was taken to a near-by surgery, where 12 stitches were Inserted in his head, nnd he was treated for bruises and shock. The £6O comprised the takings of the shop, which Travers had taken home for safety. He was returning to work, and had just dismounted from his bicycle at the hack entrance of the shop when he was nllacked.
