COLTS’ SUCCESS. FINAL GAME DECIDED. NO SCORE RECORDED. The curtain was rung down upon club hockey in the Waikato on Saturday when, by playing Old Roys to a scoreless draw in the Himl match, Colts won llic Kiiiip Memorial Shield hy a margin of two points. Fast, keen hockey, typical of ‘‘Anal" standard characterised the match, both teams sharing attack. During the first spell Old Boys were dominant and, distinctly unlucky on several occasions, merited at least several goals. However, in the closing stages Colts took up the running, the forwards making some very snappy movements which just failed to reach their objective. Kelly and Lawry made the running for Colts from the bully, but a series of Infringements held up the attack. Curteis put a handy centre into the middle, but the 'Colts inside forwards were slow to gather in and Pountney registered a great clearance down the centre. Davies figured In a nice Old Boys’ van movement, Ross working hard along the right to keep the attack sustained. Badeley, however, got the ball away to the Colts’ van, but Ewan proved sound and kept the inside forwards out of the circle. Torrid play in the Colts’ circle occupied a brief session, the backs being lucky to keep the attackers out. Kelly and Tomlinson broke away from a twenty-five bully, Rougbton putting a good centre from the latter just wide of the posts. An ensuing corner shot from Badeley was blocked and Slorry got the ball away to neutral territory. Pountney, who was playing a great game for Old Boys, repressed the ■Colts’ attack, sending the ball away 10 Power and Davies, who hammered the Colts’ goal. Jane ’Cleared, hut only temporarily, and, fed by a long clearance from Ewan, Froude, Power and Davies attacked. A shot from Davies, McKinnon kicked clear, while, staunch defence in the goal-mouth by Haverbier prevented what seemed must he a certain goal. Forced to two corners, Colts had their backs to the wall until Rougbton and Tomlinson swung the ball up to the other end. Ross and Innes were to the fore when Old Boys again took up the running, but Kelly and Hubbard reversed the position, the former forcing Ewan and Pountney to a corner. Fluctuating Fortunes. Up and down play followed. At one stage Houghton, after a brisk sally down the left, hit a poster, but the Old Boys’ defence had worked the ball back to neutral territory at the half-time whistle, with no score recorded. A long clearance from Hubbard enabled Colts to assume the advantage early In the second spell; but Ewan kept the invader out of the circle. Badeley got in a great shot from a corner, but Ewan stopped the hall and put it out of danger. With the leather back at the other end, McKinnon kicked clear in good style, Jane further easing the 'pressure after a brief melee with Clough. ' Rougbton showed pace and initiative in a smart sally to Old Boys’ territory, Kelly’s shot being blocked. Play swept to the other end, Froude putting an angle shot just wide of the posts. Roughton again was responsible for a snappy wing movement, 'but Pountney sent the attackers back and, making use of a series of infringements, Old Boys took up the running. Whole Van Handles.

The entire Colls van handled in a movement that transferred the ball to Old Boys’s mandate, Kelly sending m a reverse stick shot into Hie wrong side of llie net. Play was fast and furious as Hie spell progressed, both sides launching abortive attempts to goal. Houghton, fed by Kelly, looked like goaling, but he failed to find the net and Innes took the hall to Hie other end. Tomlinson led out from neutral territory, feeding Lawry, who sent in a shot to the top of tiie net. M. West made a magnificent save by jumping high and tossing the hall over the cross-bar.
