SEIZURE OF SILVER.

£132 WORTH ON STEAMER. ARftEST OF STEWARD. (By Telegrapn.—-p-rrss Association.) WELLINGTON, Wednesday. Detective W. Ritchie last night seized £132 in silver coin from a steward on the Monowai some hours before the vessel left for Auckland. The steward, Francis James Buckley, aged 27 years, was arrested, and was charged to-day with attemtping to export the silver without a permit. There was a suggestion that stewards and others were being used by parties and were not principals. In fining accused £25 the Magistrate, Mr Page, remarked on this, and said that the fine would not meet the case of a principal. The silver was automatically confiscated.
