Relief For Farmers.
REBATE ON RATES
WAIKATO COUNTY SUPPORT.
RESOLUTION ADOPTED
The inabiltiv of many farmers to meet their rates obligations owing to the diminished dairy produce returns was commented upon by the Tauranga County Council in a letter discussed by the Waikato County Council to-day.
The Tauranga Council said it had considered the position, and forwarded the following resolution of request to Hie Waikato Council for support, prior to presentation to the Prime Minister, the Rt. Hon. G. W. Forbes: — ‘■That early consideration be given to the granting of some casement to county ratepayers, as was done in 1931-32, to the extent of permitting County Councils to make a rebate of 20 per cent, on the 1933-3 4 rates.” “I think that the suggestion is a good one,” remarked Mr T. H. Henderson, who pointed out that there was a considerable sum available which could be utilised in this direction. He considered that it would he reasonable to ask for a 12* per cent, rebate, as a large sum from petrol taxation could be made available.
It was decided to support the Tauranga Counci’s resolution and bring the matter before the notice of the lion. J. A. Young, M.P.
