“A DEVIL SHIP.”
BOUND FOR DEVIL’S ISLAND. MUTINY AMONG CONVICTS. / FORTY SCALDED TO DEATH. ALGIERS, Dec. 7. i Forty prisoners are reported to have been killed as the result of the suppression with steam from the boilerp of a mutiny on board the convict shija La Martiniere. The vessel at the time carried 250 prisoners bound for Devil’s Island, Including, a matricide and three othe* murderers. After taking on board 394 more prisoners at Algiers, the vessel resumed her voyage to Guiana.

(Received Dec. 9, 10.30 a.m.) \ ALGIERS, Dec. 8. \The chief of police emphaticallj denies the reported mutiny and killing of 40 convicts by jets of steam on the convict ship La Martiniere. Actually only one convict was dlssatistied with the food. He and two otliers threatened the ship’s doctor, but discipline was soon restored.
