Shoes which are even slightly damp should be turned over on their sides to dry. When left upright, the centres of the soles remain damp, while Iho edges dry and shrink. This not only strains the stitching, but pulls the soles into uncomfortable shapes. Never dry shoes near a lire. Fill them with paper and leave in a warm place, nr in a good draught.
To make shoes waterproof durins a wet season, soak the soles In a mixture of one pari resin lo two parts tallow. Leave overnight, and a great deal of the liquid will have been absorbed by morning.
